Discovery Days Summer Camps 2008

Camps are not available the week of June 30 through July 4.

Join the Bay Area Discovery Museum this summer for non-stop fun and adventure. Sign up for a different Discovery Camp each week and celebrate the joy of guided exploration and open-ended play. Camp themes include visual and performing arts, building, natural history, science, crafts and more. Facilitated by experienced educators and camp counselors, Discovery Camps engage young developing minds and bodies through innovative, interactive learning experiences. Our camp atmosphere is friendly, welcoming, and non-competitive. Camp content is a vehicle through which children develop intellectually, emotionally and physically. We provide open-ended experiences with a focus on process, not product. This enables children to enjoy the freedom of independent discovery and test their limits safely.

New This Year

We have changed the way we group children in camps to be able to better meet their developmental needs. Campers are in small groups of 12 children, and are organized by grade level:

Preschoolers ages 4 and 5 (Preschool)
Children who are entering first and second grade (1/2)
Children who are entering third and fourth grade (3/4)

Please note:
Children enrolled in the Preschool group must be 4 years old by the first day of the camp in which they are enrolled. Children older than 5 who have not completed Kindergarten should enroll in the Preschool group.

Camp Fees (per session)

Half-day
9 a.m. – noon or 1 – 4 p.m.
Members $225; General $250

Full-day
9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Members $385; General $415

Materials Fee
Clay Play $20
Carpenter’s Apprentice $40

Extended Care
$35 per child each week for the morning, lunch or afternoon hour.

Lunch care is only included in camp fees if enrolled for both morning and afternoon sessions.

Sign up before 9 a.m. on the Monday your camp starts to avoid emergency care fees. Fees increase by $5 per session if you register during the week your child is enrolled in camp.

Refund Policy
The Bay Area Discovery Museum reserves the right to cancel camps not fully enrolled and will issue full refunds in such cases. Fees are 100% refundable if requested by April 18 and 75% refundable if requested by May 31. There are no refunds after June 1.

Scholarships

A limited number of partial Summer Camp Scholarships are available based on financial need. Please download the questionnaire and fax it to (415) 339-3930 or drop it off at the Museum’s front desk. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
